Almost a Must for Hindelang Visitors – The Hirschalpe

Starting from Oberjoch
We start in Oberjoch. Park at the large parking lot at the entrance to the village and walk toward Ornach / Ifenblick. This means crossing the road and walking uphill past Klinik Santa Maria.
You can find a detailed description of this first section here.
Once you have passed the clinic, the trail becomes almost flat, leading through forest and meadow back toward Hindelang. At Ifenblick, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Hindelang mountains, the village itself, and all the way to the Ifen.
On many days, this hike alone would be enough for us – but today we want more and continue on toward the Hirschalpe.
At first the path remains small and natural. Soon you will reach the asphalt road, which you then follow uphill (in parts somewhat steeper). After about 200 meters, there is a junction to the left. This path is a bit more demanding but prettier – although the asphalt road will also lead you to your destination.
Once you arrive, it is wonderful to sit on the sun terrace and enjoy some delicious food. The view is even more spectacular than at Ifenblick, but above all the overall atmosphere is simply enchanting.
The newly renovated alpine hut has turned out beautifully. Especially in winter or on bad weather days, the new cozy parlor must be a wonderful place to sit (it has large windows as well – there were guests sitting there when I took the photo). The terrace is now larger, which is great on busy days.
When we visited, the menu was small but excellent, with a few soups, local snacks, cakes, and similar dishes.
Optional Extension
You can also continue up to Jochschrofen or Spieser (about 30 minutes additional hiking time).
This option is not possible in winter.
We often return the same way, but this time we make a small detour via Ornach. It only adds a few minutes, and the total hike is still under three hours, but the view makes it well worth it.
A hiking holiday in Bad Hindelang should look exactly like this.
Getting There
From the Hotel Prinz-Luitpold-Bad, drive toward Oberjoch (turn right uphill from the main road) and park at the first large parking lot after the “Oberjoch” town sign.
Tip: With our guest cards, you can receive a free parking ticket at the parking machine.
You can also reach Oberjoch in 15 minutes by bus (stops: Jubi DAV or Bad Oberdorf, Abzw. Luitpoldbad).
Alternatively, you can always book the on-demand shuttle “Emmi-Mobil”, which – like the bus – is included free of charge with your Allgäu-Walser Pass.
