Alpe Klank via the Hirschbachtobel

From there, follow the path across the meadow and into the Hirschbachtobel.
Attention:
You will cross a small bridge. Shortly after that, the trail left leads toward Polite, but we continue straight ahead up the gorge, crossing another bridge and following the sometimes steep climb to the end of the Hirschbachtobel.
If you were to turn right and continue uphill from there, you would head toward the Hirschalpe.
We instead continue straight toward Hirschberg / Alpe Klank. Don’t worry about the time indicated on the sign – in our experience it isn’t quite accurate.
The trail leads through forest and meadows, and after about two hours we reach the Hirschberg. From there it’s only a few more minutes to Alpe Klank.
Here we enjoy a traditional snack platter, cake, and the sound of deer roaring in the distance. The mountain views delight us every single time.
You can descend via the road, but we personally prefer another route.
We walk back to the Hirschberg summit and follow a small trail downhill. A bit of surefootedness is required, but the path is beautiful – partly shaded, partly sunny.
Important: follow the signs carefully.
We do not want to descend via the Kellerwandweg, but instead via Café Polite.
Once there, you can stop for a break or continue downhill, following a short section of the Hirschbachtobel. You will come out near the Hirschbach Chalets and can return through Bad Oberdorf or along the road back to the hotel. The road is quicker – so that’s usually what we do.
So, convinced yet?
Is this the perfect hike for your Allgäu hiking holiday? Then give it a try – it’s definitely worth it.
Always check opening hours in advance. The alpine huts usually close around the end of October.
Not Staying at the Hotel?
In that case, you can park at the bus station and start the hike directly from the Schnitzelalm, walking up through the gorge.
