SHORT HIKE TO CAFÉ POLITE

We personally choose to walk up from the hotel via the old Joch road (since we live here) because the day is sunny and mild.

From the hotel walk toward the Joch road and turn right onto the uphill road (old Joch road) a few meters after the bridge. Simply follow this road. It is well developed (paved) and easy to walk. The downside is that you are always relatively close to the main road.

A more romantic alternative is the route through the Wildbachtobel gorge, which is naturally a bit less sunny but offers much more of a nature experience.

From the hotel parking lot walk toward the Joch road but turn right onto a narrow path before the small bridge. Follow this path up the gorge until a signpost offers the choice between Oberjoch or Café Polite. Follow the sign toward the café.

Both routes meet where you must cross the Joch road. A small turnstile on the left side of the road indicates the crossing point. Carefully cross the road and follow the small meadow-forest path.

This becomes a narrow gorge path that is no longer suitable for strollers because it has steps, roots, and narrow sections. If this does not bother you, this part of the trail is very beautiful.

First you descend a little and then climb up on the other side. At the highest point the forest opens up and you see Café Polite right in front of you.

The view is magnificent: mountains all around, a beautiful view of Hindelang, and nature everywhere.

At the entrance stands an old chestnut tree and a small playground, followed by the beautiful sunny terrace. We settle down there. Today we are lucky – there is even live brass music.

It is a wonderful place to relax. We order food and drinks (traditional local cuisine) and enjoy the sun and the view.

Inside, a lot has changed as well. A modern Alpine dining room has been created where you can also feel comfortable if the weather is not ideal.

There are several possible routes back, including the two described for the ascent (although we do not recommend descending through the Wildbachtobel).

We decide to take the shortest route via the Hirschbachtobel. The gorge itself is very beautiful, and circular routes always have their charm.

You emerge near the Schnitzelalm on the main road of Hindelang. From there you can choose your preferred route: either along the road and then right down to the hotel, or through Bad Oberdorf.

We choose the first option to reach our wellness hotel in the Allgäu because it is the fastest.
