Our Allgaeu Guide

We had already walked the classic route several times and felt like trying something new. This route is longer, but in our opinion much more pleasant. Route: From the Tannheimer Valley – Neunerköpfle – Landsberger Hut – Schrecksee – and back via Hinterstein

When the crocuses slowly start to emerge around Easter and nature throughout the Allgäu awakens, we feel the urge to head outdoors again. There are so many wonderful things to do at this time of year. We’re really looking forward to it.

Here are our favorite hikes, excursions, and events – a few insider tips for you.

Beautifully located above Hindelang in Gailenberg, this ancient farmhouse offers a surprising interior. Since its purchase and renovation by the famous Hindelang artist Kilian Lipp and his wife, it houses a wonderful collection of his works.

We love Alpe Klank, and the great thing is that there are many different ways to reach it. Today we take the route through the Hirschbachtobel gorge, starting directly from the hotel.

Duration: about 2 hours (one way)

As a hotel guest who enjoys hiking (other visitors may struggle with parking), the best way is to follow the old Jochstraße uphill until you reach the small gate on the left that crosses the new Jochstraße. This is the same route you would take toward Café Polite.

Duration: about 1.5 hours (one way), Difficulty: moderate, Elevation gain: just under 400 m

As so often in the mountains, many paths lead to the same destination. We chose a route that saves quite a bit of elevation gain. Of course, you can also hike to the Hirschalpe directly from Hindelang, for example via the Hirschbachtobel.

Don’t be surprised: we did this hike in late autumn (see the photos), but it is just as beautiful and easily possible in spring/summertime.

From the hotel straight to the summit – or into a wild mountain gorge?
Here you’ll find the most beautiful hiking destinations around the Prinz-Luitpold-Bad in the Allgäu – all without needing a car.

There are places where hiking doesn’t begin at a cable car station or a parking lot – but right at your doorstep. Our hotel is one of those places. When you wake up in the morning with a view of the mountains and think, “Today I just want to head out,” all you need to do is lace up your hiking boots. The rest happens naturally.

In 2015 Café Polite above Hindelang reopened after a complete renovation. It is now more beautiful than ever, the food is delicious, and the view from the terrace is fantastic.

The hike takes about 40 minutes up and 25 minutes down. If you are lucky, in spring you may see the crocuses blooming again.

A beautiful sledding trip with minimal costs (only the bus ticket). The well-prepared old Joch road is especially popular among locals as a sledding route. But many winter holidaymakers have also come to appreciate it. Beautiful nature, few other sledders, and lots of fun racing downhill into the valley on your sled. The end of the route is just before the bridge by the hotel.
